Provenance – it’s more than just a buzzword to us, we’ve built our family business on it
Provenance has become a buzzword for food businesses and consumers over recent years as people demand more transparency about where their food comes from and how it is produced.
For us, good provenance and knowing everything about the fruit and vegetables we sell has been part of Williamson’s since we started in the 1940s.
We’re fortunate to be based in an area famed for its rich farm land and high-quality growers, be that traditional British potatoes and vegetables, salad vegetables and fruits. The vast majority of our suppliers are within a 50-mile radius of our location, spanning the great agricultural counties of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We are on first-name terms with all of them.
Although a large amount of the produce we sell is sourced from local suppliers, this is not possible with the more exotic fruits we supply, which are grown in warmer climates. Therefore, when importing fruit, we work closely with agents to ensure the growers we buy from live up to the quality we demand in terms of production methods and end result.
Although many see provenance as a new trend, at Williamson’s it is a value we have built our business on – the best quality produce from local growers combined with first class service, which makes for happy customers.
